Connor drove his car to the front of Aubrey's house, where we were waiting, clad in our pyjamas. The nurse informed me of my mother’s wellbeing, her health was stable for now. That was enough to put me at rest for now.

I spent a little bit of time with her, talking to her while she just stared at me, unable to talk, unable to do anything but blink.

I even wondered if she could hear what I was telling her.

The nurse didn't want to tell me, but I knew my mother had little time left.

The only family I had left was going to leave, and there is nothing I could do about it.

I cried into Aubrey's arms, feeling at loss with everything, but she comforted me. I have no idea why Aubrey decided to adopt me as her best friend, but she was the sister I never had.

"Hey Naomi," Connor greeted only me as we got into his expensive looking car judging from the posh leather interior, obviously ignoring Aubrey.
