Leila stared at the pack of poisoned seasoning in her hand, she didn't intend to take that route with Kira. But there didn't seem to be any other way out after it was discovered that she might get to know about their plans, which would only lead to them getting exposed.

Finding out about the power Kira possesses had all of them on the edge. It's obvious no one can be hired to take her out physically, something has to be destroyed in her belly to get rid of her. Which was why Leila had used the food poisoning approach to avoid getting suspected, just like the relaxing tea she had intended to use against the Luna.

Rather than wait for Kira to hand over the throne, they can as well take it forcefully by getting rid of everyone who appears as a hindrance. For a week, Leila had been feeding Kira with the poison.
