Chapter three

"Cheers."

The happy group of doctors clinked their glasses of wine before downing them. The sat back in their chairs, chatting loudly above the fast Afro beat playing in the hotel bar.

"Guys we have just one village to visit and then we are done with our residency. Can you guys believe it?" Louis, a very fair, almost albino skinned kid screamed to be heard above the hubbub around them. "We should let loose this night. We never know, it may be our last chance to."

"You're right, Lou. Once we start getting called in, we'd be way too busy." Shirley agreed clearly already tipsy.

She suddenly got to her feet and flicked her long blonde hair. "I'm going to the dance floor, maybe check out some cute guys. You  shouldn't wait up for me." She giggled as she sashayed down to the crowded floor beneath them.

"I wanna dance too." Roy called out before downing the rest of his drink. "Michelle, you're coming with?"

Michelle blushed at his outstretched hand and nodded cutely before putting her hands in his and letting herself be led to the dance floor.

The other three boys just said fuck it and followed their colleagues downstairs. They were after all still young and at the peak of their lives although Louis had to practically drag the reluctant Bob with him.

"Have fun but not too much fun, guys." Will called out after them but most of them were already too far gone. He turned to Mo who was sitting beside him still nursing her first glass of wine. "Who am I kidding, kids never listen. Oh, now I sound like an old man."

"...."

Will sighed when Mo didn't even crack a smile at his attempt at humour. He slid closer to her on the sofa they were sitting on. "We just have a week left and we would be back home. You don't look happy." He commented.

"I told you I didn't want to come here, Will. I had a very intimate appointment with my bed but you dragged me here."

Will rolled his eyes at her party pooper vibes. "This was the first night free we had. Of course you can't miss it."

"After we are done with our work, we still have approximately five days to explore the city before we leave."

"Yeah but everyone would want to be doing their own thing then. It would be harder to get everyone together."

Mo sipped her drink. "Is it necessary to get us all together?"

Will gave her a fake appalled look. "Of course, it is necessary to build team spirit.

The doctors that drink together, stay together or some shit."

Mo smiled a bit at his over dramatic disposition. "Drink together my ass..." she took a sip of her drink to hide her smile. Then she mumbled loud enough to hear it. "More like the doctors that dance together."

Will smiled beyond pleased that she was entertaining his playful banter. He leaned in closer practically caging her to the wall. "Do you wanna dance?"

Mo watched him eye her from beneath hooded eyelids. She knew exactly what he wanted with the smouldering look he was giving her.

Will's lips said one thing but his eyes promised totally different things. She would be totally down with it, she had had one night stands now and then. It was all she could afford to have since she didn't have time for relationships.

And it was all up to her to make a choice.

It was a bad idea, Will was your typical playboy, the type she promised herself never to mix with and he was her colleague. It was a very bad idea but....

"I'd much rather get away from here." She finally said and traced his arm muscles with her perfectly manicured fingers.

Will grinned. "Yours or mine?"

"I don't have any condoms on me."

"Mine it is, then."

Modupe watched a pregnant woman stand at the top of the hill silhouetted against the setting sun. She was so heavily pregnant, she had to be having some serious back and feet aches. Her figure looked young, tired and dirty.

"Please, help me." The woman called out to her stretching trembling hands towards her.

Modupe ran towards the lady to catch her before she collapsed. When she got to the woman,  She had already fallen on the ground. The body was a mess, there was a crying baby covered in blood and the mother was deathly still with her face turned away from Mo.

She hesitantly grabbed the lady's face to check if she was still breathing. What she saw made her blood run cold. Her eyes darted back to the baby, ..... only it was not a baby anymore but a bloody three year old toddler grinning back at her.

"Mama."

Modupe shot off the bed with abject horror on her face. Her heart pounded away within her rib cage and she had to cover her mouth to stop the scream that threatened to rip out of her lungs.

She did not just dream about getting pregnant after having sex last night with Will. She looked besides herself to find him still peacefully asleep.

He did looked good asleep morning hair and all, more handsome and only the sound of his breathing left him as he clung to her waist but she couldn't admire that this morning. Not when she was in fully panic mode.

She carefully and quietly removed his hand from her body and got off the bed.

She picked her matching lace underwear, that Will had been nice enough to put on his couch while they were flinging their clothes all over the room the night before, and wore them.

She padded across the room to the trash bin that was placed at the door of his bathroom and frantically began to search it till she came up with the first used condom. It was thankfully safely intact. She nearly let out a breath of relief before she remembered that they had done it twice the night before.

Mo felt a shiver of dread run through her body as she felt for the second condom in the bin to assure herself that it was just a bad dream, a nightmare.

She wasn't like her mother. She was not going to be stuck with a promiscuous man just because they had a child together. It would not happen in her case. No matter what.

If she could just find the damned condom.

The shrill sound of her phone going off startled her, just as her hand grabbed the other latex item. She quickly checked that it was still intact before rushing back so Will wouldn't wake up to see her rummaging through his garbage.

"Good morning." Will's husky voice greeted her as she reached for her phone. She gave him sleepy form a small smile and putting her finger on her lips to shush him before picking up Dr Evan's call.

Will laid on his back and listened to Mo's side of the conversation as she updated the older doctor of their progress so far and her plans for the last village. It was the smallest and a lot out of the reaches of most form of civilization which was why it would take only one day to cover and was left for last.

They had that Sunday to rest up and a very hectic Monday ahead of them after which they were done with work.

Will thought of asking Mo out on a tour date when they were free. She could show him around the country she was from.

They could walk around all morning, maybe take an ice-cream break, it was her guilty pleasure, and they could shop for souvenirs and have lunch at a restaurant of his choice.

He could order a dinner special to end the day. If he was lucky, the meal would be only the start of their night.

He didn't notice that she had dropped the call until he heard, "What has got you smiling like that?" Will looked up to see Mo putting on her jeans which she had picked up from the floor.

Had he been smiling? He hadn't realized.

"Are you already leaving? So soon." She glanced at him and went back to pick her shirt and shoes off their spot on the floor. "Stay for breakfast at least. We can have anything you want."

"This is a one night stand, Will. No need to mix feelings by offering to feed me afterwards." She finally threw the top on and sat on the sofa to put on her shoes.

"Come on, Mo." He whined tossing to the edge of the bed that was closest to the sofa she was seated in. "If we part this way, it would only be awkward later. If we do have breakfast and talk for a bit, we could easily go back to how we were before."

That made sense to Modupe. If they parted on her terms, she would end up being awkward around him but maybe if they diffused the tension having breakfast, she could go back to before the one night stand happened.

She nodded at his expectant face. "Sure."

Will threw a victory fist in the air and reached for the telephone on his bedside table to call room service.

"Bread, scrambled eggs and coffee sounds okay?"

"Awesome." Mo replied  taking off her shoes since she was not running off anymore, she decided she might as well clean up before eating. "Have you've got a spare toothbrush?"

Mo had made a bunch of bad decisions in her adult life, the latest of which was staying for breakfast at Will's room. She had merely postponed her eventually walk of shame which she was now doing at two on a Monday morning!

At first, staying had served it's purpose. They did talk, about anything and everything ranging from how hectic medical school was to their most embarrassing moments. It was fun and she ended up laughing way more than she had expected.

Then the conversation had turned towards their dating history. Modupe had confessed to having lost her first kiss to him in her first frat party during the truth and dare game.

Will had been surprised and said he hadn't even realized it was her first kiss since she was such a good kisser, and that she was even more amazing the night before. The best he had ever had, he said.

And just like that, the sexual tension was back on. Every statement after that seemed to have a double meaning. Will began to flirt with her and she, even though every ounce of common sense within her begged her not to, had flirted back as well.

It was inevitable. One thing led to another and they had ended up tangled in his sheets two hours later and had spent all day ordering meals, watching chick flicks, having sex and cuddling.

Now Mo felt guilty and sorry for herself as she hurried down the hall shoes in her hands to get to her room without waking up the other inhabitants of the hall suite.

She let out a sigh of relief when she was safely in her room. She really couldn't let this happen again.

She took a minute to regroup and steel herself. She would go back to ignoring Will. It was the only way.

Relationships were a complication she couldn't afford and she definitely didn't believe in the existence of love. Not since her parents' failed marriage.

What she did however believe in was the existence of fools and she could not be a fool. Not for a man that only wanted her for her body. She would not be that woman, never.

She was probably over thinking it any way.

Sure,  Will had been flirting with her for quite q while and now he had finally gotten what he wanted,  he was probably glad that she had left and saved them both the horror that was the morning after. Yesterday was.... well, it was a fairy tale and now they were back in reality.

The reality where Will was just a good looking guy, who flirts like he breaths and doesn't do relationships. The reality where her father cheated on her mother after fifteen years of marriage.

In this reality, Modupe Bankole Williams was a stone cold bitch. And that was never going to change.
