Chapter 13 His Past

I wasn’t sure how I expected Iris to react, but I was surprised. I had wanted to catch her off guard, and I did that. But she didn’t panic after hearing my question. She avoided my eyes and shrugged.

“I have no idea how, I was just desperate,” she answered vaguely.

I studied her, but decided not to press further. She had been through enough.

“Alright,” I said softly, and left her to rest.

When I got back to his room, he was sulking again. Ever since the invitation to the big pack meeting, he had been moodier than ever, brooding in silence and refusing to leave his quarters for reasons unknown. I took a deep breath and stepped inside, determined to get through to him this time.

He was sitting by the window, staring out into the distance, lost in thought. The shadows played across his face, highlighting the lines of worry and sorrow etched into his features.
