CHAPTER 41

ANNA

WHEN I SLOWLY awoke, my head felt like there were two monsters playing catchball in it, but instead of rubber balls, they were using large steel balls.

I groaned and turned over, noticing that my hands were untied now. I gently rubbed my head and felt a sharp pain at the back of my neck. That was where I had been hit. There was dried blood surrounding the area.

I groaned and l sat up. My vision blurred for a second before my eyes adjusted to the gloom.

The air was familiar. I took a deep breath. It smelled like... home.

I looked around the room where I had been locked in. It didn't look familiar. The windows were barred shut so I could not look out, or open it from the inside. The room was bare. There was a bed in a corner with a nightstand and lamp, and a single cane chair at another corner. But that was all the furnishing in the room.

Who were these people that had kidnapped me and what do they want? I wondered.
