Chapter Twenty-Four

Ella sat on the sofa, reading a book she really had no genuine interest in. Life was grey and dull right now. Even with her new life in London just around the corner. She was all packed and ready to go.

Telling her parents hadn’t been that hard in the end. They had Ava living back in the village, about to marry a very wealthy man. It didn’t matter to them that their other daughter was going to move away.

They knew if they needed her, she would be there. Because Ella had always been the responsible one. The one to call on if something needed doing. She just wasn’t as wanted as Ava. Ava was the stand out child, always in need and want of attention.

Ella felt so lost and that was partly to do with her family, but also having had Nick and lost him. Well, she hadn’t had him, really. Nick had belonged to another.

She couldn’t believe she was so lifeless without Nick here. It wasn’t like they had a relationship.
