Chapter 6

Hayley's POV

I raked my hands through my hair before sighing in frustration. This wasn't nice. How could I be pregnant? Wasn't my life already miserable enough? Wasn't the current situation of things terrible enough? I loved babies but not in moments like this.

Placing my free hand on my stomach, I gently rubbed my stomach, my caress as soft as ever. My baby was still really fragile. Enid mustn't hear about this. If he does I'd be doomed. He had strictly warned me against getting pregnant and he was extremely serious about it. Else he definitely wouldn't have seen any necessary reasons to feed me with birth control pills regularly.

I paced the room going back and forth as my mind raced with possible ideas on how to run away. I couldn't help but let out a sigh looking at the few clothes I had packed in my duffel bag. Come to think of it, was I even meant to take clothes while running? It seemed like there was no possible option. How was I supposed to run away without immediately alarming the guards? Heck, if I got caught in the process Enid would most likely order that I be thrown in the dungeon and I didn't want that. I could get mistreated but my baby doesn't deserve even the tiniest form of inconvenience.

I was cut out of my train of thoughts as the door burst open making me abruptly turn in shock.

My heart raced as Enid stormed into the room, his eyes ablaze with anger. I instinctively took a step back, feeling like a trapped animal.

"What do you think you're doing, Hayley?" Enid's voice was sharp, slicing through the tension in the room.

"I...I..." I struggled to form coherent words, my mind racing with fear and desperation.

"Running away, are you?" Enid's tone dripped with disdain as he advanced towards me, his footsteps echoing loudly in the room.

"I had to leave," I managed to choke out, my voice barely above a whisper.

Enid's expression darkened, and for a moment, I feared he might strike me. But instead, he stopped in his tracks, his eyes narrowing as they landed on my stomach then on the pregnancy strip.

"What's this?" he demanded, his voice cold and calculating.

I felt a surge of panic coursing through me as I realized what he had seen. I instinctively placed a protective hand on my belly, feeling the life growing inside me.

Enid's eyes widened in shock as he took in the sight, his anger momentarily forgotten as he processed the revelation.

"You're pregnant," he said, his voice barely a whisper as he stared at me in disbelief.

I nodded slowly, feeling a mix of fear and uncertainty swirling inside me. I didn't know how Enid would react to the news, but I knew it wouldn't be good.

Enid's expression hardened as he took a step towards me, his eyes ablaze with a mixture of anger and something else I couldn't quite place.

"How dare you keep this from me? How dare you get pregnant when I warned you not to." he growled, his voice low and dangerous.

"I...I didn't know how to tell you," I stammered, feeling like a cornered animal as he loomed over me.

Enid's jaw clenched as he glared at me, his fists clenched at his sides.

"You will pay for this, Hayley," he said, his voice low and menacing. "You will pay dearly."

"I...I..." I stammered, unable to form coherent words in the face of his fury.

"So running away, are you?" Enid's tone was dripping with disdain as he looked me up and down with disgust.

"I...I had to leave," I managed to choke out, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Had to leave, did you?" Enid sneered, his lips curling up into a cruel smile. "And where do you plan on going, hm? Do you really think you can escape from me?"

I shook my head, feeling small and helpless under his intense gaze. I knew there was no escaping him, not when he was this angry.

"You belong to me, Hayley," Enid growled, his voice low and menacing. "You made a promise to me, and you will honor it, whether you like it or not."

I felt a surge of defiance rising up within me, fuelled by fear and desperation. I couldn't let him control me like this, not when my baby's life was at stake.

"I won't let you hurt my child," I said, my voice trembling but determined. "I'll do whatever it takes to protect my baby, even if it means defying you."

Enid's eyes flashed with rage as he took a step towards me, his hands curling into fists at his sides.

"You dare to defy me?" he snarled, his voice rising with fury. "You insolent little wretch! I should have known you would betray me like this."

I braced myself for his wrath, knowing that whatever punishment he had in store for me would be swift and merciless. But I refused to back down, even in the face of his anger.

"I won't let you control me," I said, standing my ground despite the fear coursing through my veins. "I'll protect my baby, no matter what."

Enid's eyes blazed with fury as he raised his hand, a look of pure malice on his face. But before he could strike me, there was a sudden commotion outside the door.

"Alpha Enid, we have urgent news!" a voice called out, interrupting our tense standoff.

Enid's expression darkened as he turned towards the door, his anger momentarily forgotten as he listened to the news being delivered.

"What is it?" he demanded, his voice cold and commanding.

"It's the rebels, sir," the voice replied. "They've launched an attack on the eastern border, and our forces are struggling to hold them back."

Enid's eyes narrowed with fury as he processed the information, his mind already calculating his next move.

"Prepare my men," he ordered, his voice steely with determination. "We will crush these rebels once and for all."

With that, he stormed out of the room, leaving me standing there, shaken but relieved that his anger had been diverted, at least for now.

But as I placed a protective hand on my stomach, I knew that our confrontation was far from over.

Enid may have been distracted by the rebellion, but he would never forget my defiance. And when he returned, I was in for trouble. He was a lot of things except from goodnews.
