Xander, Rosa, and I were crowded together in the darkened chamber, feeling as though a heavy blanket of secrets pressed down on us, making it feel oppressive. Our already tenuous predicament was further heightened by Xander's unexpected entrance, whose intentions and allegiances remain a mystery.

I couldn't get rid of the uneasy sensation that was nibbling at the edges of my thoughts as we talked about our next moves. I was taken aback by Xander's abrupt presence and wondered what part he played in the complex web of betrayals and alliances that surrounded us.
