TWENTY

There he was, sprawled out on the couch, lying the arms of two naked women. There were empty bottles of alcohol on the ground. Mary stood there, staring at them with wide eyes, she could not believe her eyes, she could already feel the tears stinging at her eyes.

He slowly opened his eyes when he heard the sound of her footsteps. He was obviously drunk.

“You are back” he asked with a silly smile on his face. He stands up from the couch and walked towards her, staggering at intervals.

“I thought you would not come back again, I’ve been waiting for you”. He tried to touch her but she pushed his hand away and ran to her room.

Even though she did not know why, even though she had no right to claim ownership on him, Mary still found herself weeping uncontrollably because of what she had seen in the sitting room. She felt her heart tear into a thousand pieces, like a spear had been through it, piercing and tearing at it with every distance it goes into her weary heart.
