Chapter 54
Simon's POV
We brought Lil back to Su's home and went straight for our room. Connor did not push me to hand her to him and I could only assume it was because he thought I needed her. He was right. I didn't love Jenny but my Lykos loved hers thanks to the stupid mate bond. Loki's pain was mine to bear and I did my best to hold onto it to keep him from struggling with it. I could not risk Loki dying of a broken heart because I would join him in death.
Being the lady killer, myself, had never dealt with heartbreak. This shit hurt and I was ready for it to end any day now. I wallowed in depression for about a week waiting for the healing of my true mate, but it felt like ages had passed. Connor had been overly kind to me and assisted by bringing food into the room and anything else that was not located in our suite.
Lil remained in her Lykos form and was tucked snuggly into the middle of the bed. She had yet to stir and concerned us both

The global werewolf (Lycanthropes) population is making a comeback after a long period of decline. It's estimated there are approximately 5,000 remaining in America alone; some living in packs; and others have gone rogue, preferring to live apart from the pack. In the 1690s, the Lycans fought to survive their eradication during the Salem Witch Hunt. Bombarded with propaganda; the people came to fear those who could transform into the beast; to believe they were cursed by a dangerous cult of witches and warlocks. This fear grew into mass hysteria. To protect their families from their perceived enemy, the people organized into mobs, hunting down the Lycans, Werewolves, and anyone else they believed to bear the curse of the witch. They burned them; alive at the stake; their screams of terror traveling the wind for miles. This time of great fear and the slaughter of the weird and different, forever devastated the families of those who survived.
