Chapter 50 Manners

Laura noticed that the expression on Chris's face didn't change, but his grip on the cutlery tightened.

"Mom, don't get too excited." Lewis thought Madam Jacobs was too excited to speak. "Helen and I will stay in Empfield until the child is born."

"No, I'm not excited at all. I'm just shocked." Madam Jacobs came back to her senses. "You can stay, but I don't recognize this woman as my daughter-in-law. I don't recognize the child in her womb either. I only have two grandchildren and they're Chris and Harry. No one else is part of the Jacobs family."

Madam Jacobs wasn't being nice at all. The smile on Helen's face finally began to fade.
