My Escape?

Linda’s POV

I felt a surge of relief wash over me as I stood on the threshold of escape, the weight of captivity lifting from my shoulder like a heavy cloak. But even as I basked in the freedom of the night, I knew that my journey was far from over.

The scene was empty and all I saw that was stopping me from truly stepping into freedom was the short fencing around the place. It was something that I could climb, I was sure of it.

I mean, yeah, it was strange, because where was everyone? Was this some kind of trick? Well, trick or not, I was not going to waste this opportunity. Maybe the universe was finally seeing my suffering and wanted to help me.

With cautious steps and looking almost everywhere every few seconds with a turn of my head, I moved. But then I heard it, and this proved to me that this was not a dream. Dogs. They were barking loudly, the sound coming from the right side of the compound.

I could not see them yet but it seemed like they had caught my scent.
