Small Comfort

After dealing with Fatima’s men, Fenris went back inside the cabin and got to work on a dish. As he got cooking, he glanced back at Christen. Her previously trembling body had already calmed down at some point, but she still wasn’t waking up just yet. As he watched her sleep, he kept wondering how he was going to get his mate to trust him again.

‘I suppose I can act neutral around her. Pretend to not care as I help her heart heal,’ he considered. ‘Showing her kindness would only hurt her. If I were to keep her at arm’s distance, it should be okay. I hope.’

His eyes widened when he saw her slowly open her eyes, having finally awakened from her sleep. He gave her a bit of time to take in her surroundings, before speaking up.

“You’re awake, I see,” he spoke, getting her attention, as she turned to the fireplace, where he was working on the soup. “Good. Then I’m not make this for nothing. After I saved you from death, I would be damned if I had let you die on me.”
