Lingering Suspicions

Both she and the guards watched as her uncle stomped away. She swallowed hard, fighting to keep her breath still. His words continued to resonate in her head, and what frightened her the most was the conviction with which he spoke - like he meant every word that was coming out from his mouth. He spoke as a man who was determined to find her and make a mess out of her life.

He was not going to let her go Scot free so easily, that one truth was what she knew.

"Do you know him?" One of the guards asked, and Arabella turned sharply to look at him. Her eyes were widened in shock by his question at first, but she suddenly caught herself and shook her head vehemently.

She could not tell the guards that she knew him, she did not know what he would do with the information she was about to give him.

"No. Uhmm, I do not know who he is. He just found me on the alley way and decided to grip me. I have no business with him." She realized she had said much more than what was needed, because the
