She's too far away." Was my only thought as I watched Beth sleep. I'd taken her out on a date as promised and we had loads of fun. We went to the cinema to watch a movie, gate crashed a stranger's birthday party and then went to a restaurant to have dinner since we were both starving.

We finally got back home by 11 and we were so tired - well, Beth was - that we both crashed immediately after taking our bath. I couldn't sleep because my hunger for her was back hence my thought about her being too far away.

I turned on my back and stared at the ceiling and began to count how many times the fan rotated. I was at 200 when Beth suddenly screamed my name and sat up in bed breathing heavily.

"Are you alright?". I asked her.

She turned her head to look at me but she wasn't focused on me as tears spilled down her cheeks. She opened her mouth to talk and shut it again.

"Beth?". I wanted to move close to her but the invisible barrier on the bed separating my side from hers stopped m
