Chapter 69

After Quentin was assigned to a ward, Martin excused himself to attend to some matters. Noelle silently observed the sleeping man on the bed, her sigh echoing in the quiet space. She would not be experiencing such anxiety if he had been involved in a car accident after their divorce.

Suddenly, Quentin awoke. He slowly opened his eyes, taking comfort in the familiar sight by the window.

He had never felt so serene before.

Maybe the idea of getting a divorce wouldn't come up again for a while. The crash had served its purpose.

"Are you Aunt Emmie's daughter?" he asked, propping himself up slightly.

Noelle hesitated. She had considered the potential consequences of his memory loss, but she hadn't expected this degree of disorientation.

"You should stay still for now! Don't go risking any more damage to your spleen," she advised, approaching to assist him back onto the bed.

Quentin complied obediently, settling onto the bed with her assistance.
