Behind the Count's Execution I

The time had come, and now we were among the throng assembled in the well-known location of the execution.

Looking at the location, I can see that nothing has changed since I was put to death. I couldn't help but avert my gaze.

The aristocrats who were found guilty are being put to death in front of the crowd of gathered nobility. Some of them are laughing, some are simply calmly grasping the chair handle, and they are all whispering.

The nobles are already in line for the guillotine, and the commoners are protesting while standing in the back. The erstwhile nobility was put to death right away when the announcer revealed their crimes one at a time.

Even my eyes were unable to avert gasps and smiles. Many of the nobles may have rejoiced in the death of a thorn in their side, while others may have been wary lest they become the next victim.
