Martin shook his head at his mother's hatred for Alden even in the face of his generosity.

Alden warned him not to trust anybody. Was this what he was referring to?

It was quite a shame, that his brothers were not in harmony, every one looking for how to sabotage one another and they had distrust for each other.

Now there was a murderer amongst them which they hadn't figured out. It was stressful to sleep with one eye open. He didn't wish this Kind of life for himself or his future family.

Imagine someone having to raise children in this setting. It'll mess with their upbringing.
