Eighty

Sally's POV

Just as I was a foot away, I was pulled back with force. It was as if an invisible string or giant rubber band was tied around my waist so that a group of people pulled me backward like a slingshot.

The pull woke me gasping for air, with my lungs screaming for air, and my throat dry as if I'd been left in the desert for a long time. Sitting up straight, I ran my hands down my face and pushed my hair away from my sweaty face and neck.

It was still dark outside, but checking the time on my phone, it was 5 am. There was no way I could go back to sleep after what happened, nor could I wake up and go for a run.

Pushing the blanket aside, I grabbed the hoodie from the edge of the bed and wore it over a tank top, finally putting on my running shoes.

I went to the bathroom to wash my face before going downstairs to get a glass of water and finally starting my run.

I don't know how I survived all the dreams I had. Yes. I've had nightmares like that since I lived through gunfire.
