Chapter thirty one

Selena

My father wished us goodnight as the evening drew to a close, his tired eyes displaying the weight of the previous day's conversations. As the nanny took Heaven to her room to get her ready for bed, the old routine took over. When I was left alone with Angel, I felt a mix of excitement and anxiety growing inside of me. This was the second we could at last have an open discussion, liberated from the requirements of past false impressions.

The soft light from the lights in the hallway led us to my room as we got there. My heart sped up with each step because I wasn't sure what to expect next. When we got inside, we sat on the edge of my bed, and there was a cloud of unspoken emotions in the air.

Angel began, his voice tinged with a mixture of regret and optimism, "I never thought I'd see the day we'd be sitting here like this, Selena." I want to put things right because I've carried the weight of our disagreements for far too long.
