Chapter thirty

Selena

As I sat across from my father, the familiar scent of home surrounding us, I mustered up the courage to share my thoughts with him. The words stumbled out of my mouth in a rush, my grammar stumbling along with them. Heaven and Angel were together in the living room. Apparently he knew one of our guards and they are friends.

"Dad, you know, Angel... he... different now," I said, my voice hesitant. "He's... good, caring."

My father's eyebrows furrowed in confusion, his eyes filled with skepticism. "Impossible, Selena," he replied, shaking his head. "People don't change so easily. You need to be careful with him."

I fidgeted with my napkin, feeling the weight of my father's words. I knew he meant well, but I believed in Angel's transformation with all my heart.

"But, Dad," I protested softly, "he's really changed. He's been there for me and Heaven, protecting us, loving us. It's different now."
