CHAPTER 43

To reach a particular park bench, Darius will give me a five-minute head start. After that, he will lead the rest of the pack in pursuit of me. I've never tried to get to the park seat since I would always run away from him the instant he commanded me to. I have never once come close to leaving his private property.

My brow furrows. Not to look at my quickly cooling, unfinished dinner, but at the plastic fork that was placed next to it. For me, there's no true fork or steak knife. Not after what transpired the last time Felix didn't take as much care as he ought to have when it came to his turn with me.

Nathan says, "I'm curious about the doctor," in a tone that makes me uncomfortable right away.

I turn away from my plastic fork and look at Nathan. I can't read him, as usual, but that doesn't mean I don't sense something approaching. Anything negative.

His voice comes from behind Darius's closed office door. He's angry, but not to the point of shouting since that's not how he controls
