Chapter 27:  Now it's your turn

Caleb raised his eyebrows and greeted the court bailiff, "Hello, sir. Who are you looking for?"

The court bailiff was momentarily startled. He had seen Charlie Jr. several times on the screen, and the kid had left a deep impression on him. But he quickly composed himself and said, "Is this Margaret Owen's home? I am a court bailiff, and I have a letter from the court for her."

Caleb pursed his lips tightly. Margaret's voice came from inside the house, "Caleb, who's at the door?"

Caleb opened the door wide, revealing the court bailiff. "Why are you keeping him at the door? Quickly invite him in," Margaret instructed Caleb.

Caleb reluctantly invited the court bailiff into the living room. Margaret told Caleb to go to his room, and he did so reluctantly.

Once Caleb had left, the court bailiff settled down in the living room.

Margret apologized to the Court Bailiff, acknowledging that her son had kept him waiting at the door. She added warmly, "You are welcome here."
