CHAPTER 48

As the taxi made its way through the bustling city streets, I gazed out of the window, watching the world pass by. The sun began to set, casting a warm, golden glow over the city, and a sense of hope washed over me. No matter the obstacles or the strained relationship with Mrs. Collins, I had faith that love and understanding would prevail.

Arriving home, I stepped out of the taxi and took a moment to collect myself. Opening the front door, I was greeted by the familiar comfort of my new home. The scent of dinner preparations wafted through the air, filling the space with warmth and anticipation.

I walked into the living room, where Alexander stood, his expression stern and his tone cold. As soon as he laid eyes on me, his voice filled the room with an air of disapproval.

"Emma, how could you go to the hospital without even informing me?" he scolded, his words striking me like a blow.
