A week had passed since Kiran had been seen, but I knew he was safe since Kerry had told me he was staying with Ben. But Lucas had missed him, and the house seemed odd without him there. I didn't want to have to start from scratch if he came back, and thankfully, the worst was over. There was a soft knock at the door as I was getting out of the tub at midnight; it couldn't have been Rory.The question is, could it?I silently approach the entrance and peer inside. I can't believe it when I see Rory; he can't have traveled here from Scotland in the past five hours. Can he possibly be sane?Before I open the door, I pause and take a big breath. I have no idea what just happened. We spent a wonderful evening together; he traveled nearly six hours to be with me, so why would he suddenly abandon me in the morning?My bruised lips and aching body keep bringing me back to him as I attempt to concentrate on Lucas' morning ritual. Just the boy and I today; we won't be doing much of anything. While Lucas finishes his breakfast, I check my phone and hear a message from Kerry. When I hit play, I make sure Lucas can't hear: "Hellooooo Darcy, we miss you tonight. We're both tired of this nonsense and want to get back to our regular lives, but who is Rory anyway?As I let out a hearty chortle, a wave of relaxation washes over me. I can't wait to see my old pals again; I've missed them so much. And I expect I'll need them much more now that Kiran's gone. I nod. These falsehoods just keep on coming. "Yeah, obviously, six hours is a lengthy drive. I feel like I've missed out on weeks of your life, so fill me in.When I ask her how she is doing, she chuckles. The most interesting thing I can say is that I won Lazor Quest.I chuckle to myself as I can't believe I didn't participate in the Lazor quest. When we were tipsy, we did this rather frequently. After a few beers, it was hilarious to use the site since Ben knew someone who worked there and would allow us to use it if we tipped him. The last time I visited, around a year ago, I believed I had broken my wrist while reenacting Mission: Impossible after 5 gins, but it turned out to only be sprained.It was great chatting with my closest buddy again; we picked up exactly where we left off, planning to have lunch with Lucas the following day. I waited for Kiran to pick me up since we had planned to eat together. It had been over two weeks, and I still felt horrible for Rory. During those two weeks, my thoughts about him increased in frequency and intensity to the point that they drove me insane.Kiran came on time and was again dressed to impress; he had clearly put in a lot of work with his well-tailored slacks and shirt, and I felt horrible that I had only thrown on some thin jeans and a nice top.As I turn to shut the front door, I tell him, "If I had known you were making such an effort, I would have dressed up."You look fantastic," he says in response. A moment later, he's at the car, door open, and ready to let me in.As I jump in, the unfamiliarity of the automobile hits me. Usually, this was the car we took on lengthy trips since it was roomier and more well-equipped than mine, but today it seemed foreign and unfamiliar. I desperately needed someone to pick me up, so when Saika and Kerry suggested a night out with the girls, I leaped at the opportunity. It had been a long time since we had been without a significant other, and I was looking forward to the opportunity to dull my senses and temporarily put Rory out of my mind.When the taxi pulls up, I eagerly get in it and smile. I cannot express how excited I am for this evening out. I just bought some really lovely new clothing that makes me feel amazing, and since I don't have a child to tend to first thing in the morning, I don't have to worry about how I'm going to pay for it tomorrow.Before the cab pulls up, I look over and notice Saika and Kerry resting against the pub wall. The morning following the night before! The hangover is making my life a living hell, and I feel I need to be hooked up to an IV drip indefinitely. I had heard about this hangover club in the United States, where you could make a call, and a nurse would come to treat your hangover. I even googled it; however, I could not discover anything nearby that provided this service.After that, the flashes begin. The first one that comes to mind is when I saw someone dancing in the middle of the street to a busker; I thought he was quite excellent.After that, I began to wonder how I managed to pay for the taxi. I thank the Lord that the Scot left before I got too inebriated because I shudder to think about what would have transpired if he had remained there. At this very time, I cannot recall the latter half of the night, but the fact that I have to put on my Ray-Bans to open the curtains indicates that it was a fantastic evening.As I look around the room, I mutter, "Shit, my phone."
