A terrible surprise

When I said those words, I expected to hear Molly squealing in excitement, or rushing to embrace me but none of that happened. There was just a long and awkward silence in the room.

I reached for the switch and turned on the light, to discover that it was empty. My body became enraged immediately, and I gritted my teeth badly while folding my hand in a fist.

Flinging the flower and the bag in my hands, I marched out of her room to Paula's. When I pulled it open, there was no one there. Then I walked to the guest room where Kate was staying and she was gone too.

I tried to calm down, and not indulge in anything irrational but I knew that I was just deceiving myself.

Maybe she was somewhere in the house, I said to myself.

Then I rushed out of the room, running down the stairs screaming her name and searching the whole house. I went to the dinning, the lounge, the study, every single place she could be at but she wasn't there.
