Surprise gone wrong

Molly:

"Lionel," I called out immediately, staring blankly into his face.

He looked as handsome and youthful as ever. His contorted nose gave his face the perfect shape and sculpt, and his lips were heavenly.

I was short of words, and it seemed like we were in the same position because he stood, and watched silently for a moment.

"Happy birthday," he managed to say before taking a seat close to me.

My face flushed once more, and I couldn't help but be grateful to the neon lights which did wonders in hiding the true colors of our faces. If not he would easily tell that he made my face red.

"I sent a text, did you get it?" He asked, and I cleared my throat thinking of a perfect lie to get away from the awkward situation.

"Let me check. I haven't really had time to check my phone for a while. You know, I was busy with the birthday, and all," I said, hoping he would buy my lies.

The bartender placed two glasses of punch in front of us. It smelt really nice. Sipping quietly on the
