Living with Rejection

The silence had been longer than a minute, before Sam finally broke it. He was totally lost for words, but he had to say something;

“It’s too late, Charity. Why didn’t you tell me this the first day I hired you?” Sam questioned, his hand covering his face.

If he wanted to behave like the wealthy unconcerned billionaire that he was, he would have just discarded Charity’s feelings, but he respected the fact that she had loved him long before he became rich.

“I was scared….I was scared to lose both you and the job,” Charity stuttered, sounding like she was about to cry.

“You should have told me,” Sam persisted, his face still covered with his hands; he didn’t want to tell Charity that he was infatuated with her the very first day he saw her at the fair.

Emily had taken all his ability to love someone else, even though she hadn’t agreed yet. But he had fallen in love with her faster than he did with Amelia.
