Chapter 25

Hannah POV

When Jamie’s aunt and cousins arrived, it was a joyous time. Aunt Esther began teasing Jamie about not eating enough and that he was too skinny. She winked at me and I tried not to giggle too loudly as she teased him. I covered my mouth trying to hide my smile as I said, “Well, if he’s too skinny, it’s not my fault, I don’t cook. That’s what we have Cookie for.”

Aunt Esther laughed and then she moved on to her sons. You can feel the love in this family. It was something that I had missed. I was glad to be a part of it. After supper, Uncle Samuel took his wife and the girls back to town. They would all stay in the hotel while they were in town.

I watched out of the corner of my eye as Elijah said good night to Mary. I could tell that he was having trouble saying good night to her. I leaned into Jamie and asked if he thought I should talk with Elijah. Jamie shook his head, “Nah, he understands that if he takes her virtue while she is under Aunt Esther’s care, it would refl
