Last night, I had trouble sleeping because I kept thinking about which of the lycans was idiot enough to get caught. Honestly? I can think of several, but I will not name them because I might end up naming almost half of our village. My only problem is, how do I find out where they are keeping the lycan prisoner? More importantly, how am I going to ask this question to Ajax without him noticing? If only Ajax is the type of human who would fall for my looks, I learned that I have a certain charm with most of the men here, which helps me a lot and, at the same time, scares me as it seems like humans and lycans are not that different, after all. “Tell me what you want, and stop following me.” Ajax sounds irritated while I am following him to the library. Even though Ajax might not look like it, he’s a pretty studious student who I just found out is ranked 8th in our age gap. Since he’s this smart, I might as well thread my question carefully. “Are you going to spend your entire day
Maxwell. That damn guy! I wonder what is he planning!? There’s no way that the son of the lycantroupe alpha would be caught if he wasn’t willing. Hell, I don’t even think that he even put up a fight to be captured like that so easily. Whatever reason he has, I need to see and talk to him so I will know what he is plotting. The only problem is, only Ajax and Indigo knows where he is. And more unfortunate news for me, the only way for Ajax to bring me to the lycan is if I pass the stupid tests of this academy. “Hey there, Belle. What are you up to?” Celine takes a seat next to me on the ground, where I have a book open on my lap. On most days, I would usually welcome her because I love her energy and bright personality. But right now, when I am trying to concentrate on studying, I just find it unwelcoming. “Sorry, Celine, but can you quiet down? I am trying to study for the exam.” I feel bad about dismissing her, but if I want to get the chance to talk to Max, then I need to mee
True to his word, Ajax got me permission to go with him to see the Lycan. The next day, Ajax was already taking me to the farthest, most heavily guarded building on campus. Based on the map of the school, I think it is one of the three main strongholds where hunters often rest. On my own, I don’t think that I would be able to get to Max if I didn’t fight, but that would mean revealing myself as a wolf. “Ajax, Belle!” Indigo waves us over while we wait and chat with a few of the guards standing outside of the building. “What took you two so long?” He wonders before a teasing grin spreads across his lips. “You two did not head of somewhere to have some along time, did you?” “Just the cafeteria.” Ajax responds plainly, jerking his thumb in my direction. “She was taking her sweet time eating.” “But it’s toast Tuesday for breakfast!” I defended myself. “You can’t miss out on French toasts!” Ajax gives me an annoyed look. “It’s just toast.” “With extra butter!” By now, Indig
Today we were given permission to go down and help out in the evacuation center. There has been a recent attack near one of the town boarders. The gate there has been broken by orcs, who have started attacking people.Female hunters are not allowed to join because it is the orcs' mating season; as a result, they can only send a certain number of hunters out into the field to help; for this reason, they need the help of a selected group of students. I know that it is an important mission, but I just can’t keep my full attention on the task. My mind has been distracted lately ever since seeing Max.“Belle, what are you doing, gawking and staring? Move!” One of the head female hunters scolds me when she notices that I have been staring blankly for a while now. “If you’re not going to help, then stay to the side. You’re blocking the way.”It’s been a few days already since I've met Maxwell, and yet I still can’t shake off the worry that I have about his words. It was vague, but I know hi
Along the way, I have to separate myself from the horse that I borrowed to get out of the gate. It’s not because I could not control it, but because the animal refuses to go back deeper in the woods. It probably remembers its terrifying experience in this area. I can’t blame it for its reaction. Even I would probably be traumatized. I left the horse midway and started to continue on foot. Tracking down where they have been is pretty easy with the help of my wolf. I have been hanging out with them for quite a while now and have successfully memorized their scent, which is pretty lucky. I managed to encounter two orcs along the way, which I had to kill quickly before they could yell out and warn the other orcs. It was difficult, considering that it was my first time fighting the orcs on two feet. Usually, I would be in my wolf form when fighting. It is more comfortable for me that way since I am faster and more powerful. More than that, all of my senses were heightened. Orcs are tall
The orc stands before us, greedily checking us out without even hiding it. Every nerve in my body is asking me to grab my knife and gouge out his eyes. I can't stand those perverted eyes. The orc must have sensed the hostility in my eyes because he then started to grin like he finds something amusing. “Well now. It seems like you’re about to bite, little cub.” The Orc King’s taunts make me want to bare my fangs at him. If Marian did not cling to me at that moment, I might have morphed into my wolf as I have almost forgotten about her. “Belle.” She says, her voice shaking. I stroke her on the head while still keeping an eye on the orc. “Go.” I tell her. I can’t tell what kind of expression she was holding at that time, but I can feel her grip tightening. I move my hands to loosen her grip on my arm. “Head out first.” “What do you—” “I cannot deal with that ugly mug of a face if you are here, Marian.” I don’t want to make it sound like I am insulting her, but if I want to
I guess getting to meet Indigo will have to wait for a while. According to their protocols, I have been sent back to the academy so I will not cause any more trouble. If anything, I am being sent to Lizzen’s office to get my punishment for disobeying the rules. Marian and the others attempted to speak up for me, claiming that they would testify in my favor or something in order to prevent me from being expelled from the academy. I'm not sure what it means to "testify," but if it keeps me in the human world, I'm more than appreciative of them. I don’t think that I am ready to return to the forest yet, not when the black wolf is still somewhere in the woods. I am fully aware that the wolf doesn’t seem like it might pose any threat to me or my wolf, but hearing it call me its mate is something that screams "red flag" to me. I know what a mate is, and with my current predicament, I don’t think that a mate is the last thing that I need right now. I don’t even think that I'm ready for su
As I follow Indigo and Ajax back to their headquarters, I can feel the covert tension. Indigo is doing a great job of concealing his emotions, but I wish I could have said the same for Ajax. He makes no attempt to hide the aggressive expression on his face, which tells me that he doesn't want me in the room. “Belle, you haven’t told anyone yet, have you?” I lost my train of thoughts when Indigo raises the question. “Told what about what?” I look away from Ajax, who was glaring at me, to address Indigo, who was seated behind the front desk of his office. Ajax and I are standing before him in full attentiveness. “The abnormal wolf.” He says, eyes boring into mine ina serious manner. “Have you told anyone about what you saw?” “Aside from this guy right here,” I jerk my thumb in the direction of Ajax. “None.” I see Indigo breathing out a sigh of relief. “Good. We’re still safe.” “Safe?” I wonder curiously and raise my brow. “What does that have to do with me telling anyone? Are you
