Tik. Tok. Tik. Tok.
She was sitting on a varnished chair—her eyes shut, arms crossed to her chest, and her back leaning against the wooden wall. The ticking sound of the old clock echoed to the empty hallway. Every tick of the clock was giving Celestine goosebumps—it was making a strange sound that can only be heard in horror movies nevertheless, Celestine decided to stay where she could hear the sea. It was humming a sweet tune that sounded like a lullaby to Celestine's ears, trying to make her fall asleep.
"Here, eat this."
She slowly opened her eyes and stared at Kingston. He put a sandwich on her lap.
"I'm not hungry," she said, removing the sandwich from her lap. She was still in her bathrobe with nothing underneath it and being around Kingston makes her uncomfortable.
"I'm not asking if you're hungry," he said, taking a huge bite from his sandwich.
Celestine crossed her legs. "How's Vincent?"
"He's fine now. He asked
Even before Celestine could entirely open the cabinet, it make a high, groaning sound. The creaking sound of the cabinet swaying open becomes distinct as she finally opened it. Dusty clothes and the wooden carvings were almost obliterated by cobwebs. She covered her nose with her arm and let out a sneeze. She did not expect the dust to be too thick that it caused her nose to itch. Celestine waved her arm to disperse the dust from the air. She could vividly see from the sunlight that shone through the room the dust particles dancing in the air because of the opened window. Her eyes were slightly blurred so she gently rubbed them. As she finished, she opened her still itchy eyes again. It was something she can't ignore so she rubbed her eyes again. The comfort that enveloped her as she rubbed her eyes was unbearable but it didn't last long either because she wanted to change her clothes already that she might take too long doing if she keep on rubbing her eyes.
"Where's Vladimir?" Alice asked Nicholas as she combed her slightly wet hair. They waited outside of the hotel building for hours, waiting for other associates to find Vincent under the morning sun, feet starting to get hurt, bullet sweats on their foreheads, only to find out that Vincent is already with Kingston and was now in the resthouse."He left without telling anyone where he's going," Nicholas replied while busy playing mobile games on his cellphone.Nicholas has no place to stay because he doesn't have a family anymore so he just decided to go to Alice's hospital room so he could at least sleep peacefully before going to the resthouse early in the morning tomorrow. The other associates booked a motel room while some went to their homes to stay for the night."How about Basty? Where is he?"Nicholas shrugged his shoulder. "I don't know. Do I look like someone who knows the whereabouts of missing people?"Alice rolled her eyes. "You l
Kingston could hardly count how many cans of beer Celestine had drunk and was still drinking. When they started drinking the sun was still up and every touch of it to their skin leaves a pinching soreness but now, the sky had gradually started to get dark, the sun hides with the departure of the clouds surrounding it but until now Celestine was still hadn't finished drinking.Celestine's face was now like a ripe tomato in red, her eyes can't keep still, it wanders everywhere like the eyes of a child just starting to know things about her surrounding, her gait is limp and sometimes she even stumbles on the sand but instead of moaning in pain, the woman was even laughing.Kingston just stared at Celestine. The woman was lying on the sand with a smile playing on her lips, her hair was disheveled with sand that looked like stars twinkling and made the strand of her hair their habitat."Oh c'mon Celestine, get up," Kingston said as he gently kicked Celest
"Uhm, soft," Celestine mumbled with her eyes shut as soon as her back laid onto the soft mattress of the bed. She switches positions from one place to another, unable to find a perfect spot on the bed for her body to comfortably rest in. Vincent did not move, nor speak. He just watches her as frustration flashed through her reddish face. She moaned and once again, changes her position. It messed up the bedsheets, some pillows even fell to the floor but despite that, he remained still, looking at her face."I don't know what you're doing to me, woman," he whispered as he stepped closer to the bed, removed his slippers, sat on the bed fastidiously—trying his best not to disturb Celestine. For a moment he stopped breathing as he finally laid to her side. Vincent has no idea of why he's doing all this. He's waiting for something in him to protest but he can't find it. He doubts if it's even there at a
"Sir, sir, wake up."Vladimir regained his consciousness and opened his eyes as he felt a soft tap on his shoulder. He lifted his body and as he tried to sit on the sharp grass of bermuda a throbbing pain strike on his temples."Sir, you fell asleep. We have to close the cemetery now. We suggest that you just visit again tomorrow," The lady guard said with a warm smile on her lips.Vladimir wandered his eyes to his surroundings. It was already dark. The moon was sheltered by the murky looming clouds. It was only when he becomes conscious that he realized that he fell asleep in the cemetery."Uhm, Miss. Can you give me a minute? I'll just say goodbye to her..." he said and looked at the pale tombstone with the name of the woman he loves the most engraved on it in an elegant cursive font. The lady guard politely nodded her head before she started walking awa
Vincent stirred his coffee as he was standing on the balcony. The trees and flowers become livelier with sunlight slanted on their stems and petals. He approached the rails and rested his elbow on them as he sipped on his coffee. He checked his wristwatch to see the time. It was only six o'clock in the morning but Vincent reckon that he woke up late. Waking up early means waking up around four AM for Vincent and now that he wakes up around six o'clock he felt that he's wasting time standing on the balcony and admiring his surroundings."Sir, here's your breakfast," a woman in her black mini shirt and white long sleeves folded up to her elbow said.He turned his gaze to the table where she put his breakfast. He walked towards the table and sit on the chair."Did you check Celestine in her room?" Vincent asked as he fastidiously placed his coffee on top of the table."Yes, Sir.
Silence engulfed the whole dining area that even the slightest noise the cutleries were making as an interaction between them happened becomes distinct that it echoed throughout the hallway. No one dares to speak. Their eyes were glued on their plates, petrified that by chance their eyes will meet."Sir, I received a call from the bodyguard and he said that Sir Kingston is waiting for you outside," the maid said, breaking the silence between Celestine and Vincent. She slowly sliced the ham on her plate. Her eyes swiftly glance in Vincent's direction. He wiped the corners of his mouth using the table napkin."Tell the guard to let him in. I'll wait for Kingston inside of my room," Vincent said before he abruptly stood up from his seat. The curtains were swaying back and forth, some of her hair strands were blocking her sight from looking outside the window. It was a peaceful mo
A woman in casual clothes rushed to the dining area. She hugged the old lady who was hysterically shouting and keeps on saying that Sophia is not dead."I'm sorry ma'am, I'm sorry," the woman apologizes as she was bowing her head, tremendously sorry for what the old lady did."I-It's okay." Celestine stood up and hugged herself. She rubbed her arms as she look at the old lady who was being escorted outside the dining area. She inhaled and exhaled, trying to catch her breath. The old lady creeped her out. She blew air and swallowed hard."Ma'am?" The maid called her.Celestine turned around to face the maid. "Yes?""Sir Vincent ask me to accompany you inside of your room now.""Okay..." she said, following the maid. She had no choice but to follow her. It was stupid of her not to always remember that she got a
