Chapter LXIII

"No, there’s no way that Alice did anything like that!" I screamed for the thousandth time in front of the council. "She might be angry at her mother and scared of everything, but she wouldn’t do that."

The elders, Peta, Quanah and Kalina were in the meeting room, discussing what we needed to do, what decision to make now. Alice was missing, but they wanted to hunt her down to find out what really happened, but I knew it wasn’t true, they would hunt her down to kill. They wanted to make her pay for the lives of the two guards, after all they did not care about Agnes.

"You have to face the facts, Bridget! Alice was the only one in that room with her mother and the two guards, they’re dead and she’s missing. Do the math!"

I was mad at Peta, I never thought I’d feel that way about him, but that’s how I was feeling. Maybe it was a mistake to bring him back after all, he had not thanked, fought with Alice and now raised the flag that she should be hunted.
