A Talk With Her Father's Old Friend

"Your father and I were very good friends."

Emily and the kind man, whose name she has learned is Joe, walk side by side in the forest, their pace leisurely. It Is peaceful, with the sounds of birds chirping in the air and the rustling of dry leaves. She imagines her father is with them, listening to her talk.

Hearing Joe's words, Emily gets interested. She enjoys hearing about her family, the family she was deprived of at a young age. She may have been happy living with her adopted parents but the fact is that she would have very much preferred to be raised by her werewolf parents. Somehow, she believes that would have done her a lot of good, and Joe confirms that.

"Your father was a very good friend, father and husband, and he was ruthless when it came to the safety of his pack. I remember when you came along, how happy the family was because they had been trying to conceive for so long. You came along and you were not ordinary."

What does that mean? Emily assumes he is talking about
