I went straight to my room, and the events of the last few days flushed into me like a drop of water from a broken roof. I sighed. I am older now. I need to change things for myself. That artist is right. Some noise comes in from my window. It's facing the street and away from the other rooms. Strange world. I walk towards it and stand there in thought, then suddenly someone comes out of the dark yard closer to our house. He looks like someone I know but who has not been around for many years. I look closely, and the glasses on his face seem to shine some light on him. He's lanky now, and his face looks pale. Mr Gregg. Wow, what is he doing here? I thought he had left forever. That's what I heard.

He lived on the next street, close to the bookshop owned by Beckett, and he usually read and smoked there.
