Chapter 6

He turned me so that the pack could see me, the same awe I had seen on his packs faces back at the cabin now present on those around us as they saw my eyes, the strange shades of amber and purple. Each of them looked at me, the state of my battered body and smiled slowly, showing me that they were all as cruel as their alpha. It was as though I was some great prize to behold, that my mate had obtained something that no other had.

Minutes passed before he released me, my legs instantly collapsing as I fell into the ground, though no sound escaped me as I clenched my jaw, doing all that I could to hide the pain in both my body and mind. I knew in my heart that this was the cause of my bad feeling, that my fate would no longer have a happy ending. Without out a word, the black eyes monster once again threw me over his shoulder and began walking, nodding at people who congratulated him as we passed, yet none acknowledged I even existed.

We approached a building that was four stories high, a light outside that I assumed was electric, I knew that such things existed, but I had never seen it for myself, we didn’t have such things at home. We entered the brick building, but he didn’t put me down. Instead, he headed towards the stairs, the walls were white and grey as you first entered, but the further he climbed the more colours I saw, red, green and blues as well as others. We reached a room that was on the very top floor, and he placed me onto the largest bed I had ever seen, the blanket as black as the walls, whilst the carpet was a soft grey colour.

I watched as the monster who destroyed my life walked away and into a room that was attached to the one I was in, I remained unmoving, not daring to speak or even breath too loud. I heard what sounded like running water, the minutes passed as I sat there, the room was bare, only the bed, three doors and a chair by the window. Perhaps everything he needed was in one of the hundreds of other doors that we had walked by before reaching this one.

Eventually he came back, drying his hands on a towel, he glanced at me before disappearing into the door beside the one that sounded like their was a waterfall, and came out with a grey jumper and the same colour bottoms, I had seen mother wear something similar when she was going to the human city. So I knew what they were.

“They will be big on you, but I have nothing else.” He said shortly, his eyes locked onto my face as he approached, “You may take bath, this will be the room we share, so I will be here when you come out.”

I frowned, my voice small and weak. “Share?”

“This is my room, but I do not want to let you out of my sight.” He growled, clearly not appreciating me questioning his decision. “I will not have a rogue roaming freely around my territory.”

I stayed silent, staring at him for a long moment. I didn’t know what to say, I wanted to refuse, say that I wanted to be nowhere near him, but he had already showed me what would happen should I defy him and my body was still trembling with exhaustion and pain. Kayla had been silent as well, unable to give me advice as she retreated into the back of my mind, unable to understand why our mate would look and treat us the way that he was.

I remembered something else he had said that confused me, and decided to go towards that line of questioning instead. “W-what is a Bath?”

He shook his head and ran a hand through his hair, clearly trying to control his temper, I appreciated him doing so but couldn’t comprehend why he was angry to begin with. “I take it you don’t know what a toilet it either.”

I frowned at his insult, I wasn’t stupid, I knew that humans and pack wolves used them, but we didn’t have one at home, we didn’t have what my mum called plumbing, the thing that was required to have a toilet. But I couldn’t remember about her taking about anything called Bath.

He pinched the bridge of his nose at my silence. “I guess you would have used a stream to wash?”

I nodded not trusting my voice.

“A Bath is a smaller version, but instead of cold water, it’s warm.” He explained, though I could tell by his tone that he wished he didn’t have to.

“Ok.” I whispered, not sure whether I was supposed to go now or wait for his command.

He shoved the clothes into my arms before turning away from me, growling slightly as he spoke. “I will go get some food, don’t try to leave this room, I will catch you.”

I watched as he stormed away from me and slammed the door roughly, causing me to jump, after a few moments I carefully climbed from the bed, watching the door as though he would burst in at any moment and tear me apart as he had done my mother. My legs were shaky and weak as I stumbled into the room where he said the bath was, the air thick with steam. Unsure if I was allowed privacy or not, I decided to leave the door open, I didn’t want to give him another reason the hurt me, my body was sore enough. With my eyes on the door, I quickly stripped out of my dress, placing the clothes he gave me and a towel by the side of the large bath, it almost reached my chest and proved difficult to climb into, the strange material it was made from slippery.

The water scolded my skin slightly when I finally managed to climb in, sinking onto my knees, I saw the bottle of coconut soap and got to work on scrubbing it into my skin, erasing the blood and dirt, leaving in the now scabbing cuts across my arms, legs and feet. Next, I wet my hair before once again scrubbing in the sweet soap, moving as quickly as my tired muscles would allow.

I heard the outer door to the room open just as I finished washing my hair, my body freezing out of terror. I should have shut the door, I realised as the footsteps drew closer and my breath came in sharp gasps. When he appeared, now dressed in denim trousers and a black buttoned shirt I froze, wrapping my arms around my breasts to hide them the best I could. He watched me for a moment before moving to lean against the door frame, his eyes tracing over what he could see of my body.

“I-I would like get dressed-d please.” I whispered softly, my eyes lowered towards the dark water.

“Feel free.” He muttered, seeming bored with my stuttering and yet; he remained where he was, watching me with those black eyes.

I shook my head, my voice small and fearful. “Please leave.”

“Leave?” He laughed, slowly walking towards me as I cowered. “This is my home rogue, my pack. You are my mate and I will not allow you to hide from me.”

He stopped beside the bath, towering over me and I shook, both from the water becoming icy and the terror I felt. I didn’t know what to do, only my mother had seen me like this, she was the only person who ever loved and cared for me, now I was all alone, trapped with the monster who took her from me. Kayla was growling within me, telling me to move, use my speed, fight back as mother taught us. We weren’t a weak little girl that he could control, we were a powerful she-wolf, unique and strong. In the blink on an eyes I had jumped from the water, using the unnatural speed I was gifted with to dress before the alpha could turn around.
