Chapter 5

What would he do to me if I went with him and the others? I didn’t want to join and pack, I didn’t want to submit to the terrifying man that was destined to be my mate. I wanted to live here with my mother and remain hidden from the world. But they had seen my eyes, my face, they would follow me and track me wherever I went. Even the human city should I find it before I froze to death.

The alpha must have given his men a silent command, they had begun to walk forward, surrounding me slowly, as though they were taunting me, daring me to run or fight. Instinctively I raised my forcefield, blocking them from taking another step, each of them growled, all except from the alpha who simply smiled.

Then, he moved forward, walking through my barrier as though it wasn’t even there, his eyes dark and merciless. I turned on my heal and jumped onto the ledge above the door, climbing onto the roof before crouching as low as I could. I looked towards the woods, my heart sinking within my chest, unable to understand how I had missed the thirty of fifty other wolves that sat around the edge of the clearing watching silently. They were there in case I ran, I was completely surrounded, if I ran, I would be caught, I may be fast, but the alpha could penetrate my barrier, what essence abilities did the others have? I wouldn’t make it a mile before I was surrounded and killed.

The alpha was below me, his feet still firmly planted on the ground as he watched me, an evil smile encompassing his face. “Drop the barrier and I will treat you kindly, force me to make you immobile and you will regret it. I will not ask you again.”

Tears slipped down my cheeks as I looked around one last time, what other choice did I have? I didn’t know if I could fight the alpha, let alone the men that surrounded me. I said nothing as I retracted the barrier and sobbed, everything my mother had done, everything she had sacrificed and it had all been undone in a single day.

None of the alpha’s men moved, they simply watched as he raised his hand and motioned for me to get down, and I did, I jumped to the ground inches away from him and lowered my head, unable to stop the trembles of fear rippled through me. Before I could even flinch my feet had left the ground and I was thrown over his shoulder, my stomach hitting the muscle of his back and knocking the wind from me.

I gripped on as best I could, pleasurable sparks consuming me wherever his skin touched mine, but neither my wolf nor I liked to feeling, it added to Kayla’s anger and my fear. We didn’t know much about mates, but what mother said led us to believe our mate would love us instantly, that he would be kind and gentle. She was wrong.

The alpha held me in place as he turned, his men cheering and howling as though he had won some great battle, confusing me further. I didn’t know what to do, so I remained still, the blood rushing to my head from the odd angle. I thought I saw some looks of sympathy from a few of the men, but no one helped me, no one dared challenge the alpha, not even me.

Some of the men chatted as I was taken further and further from my home, tears of grief slipping from my eyes and dripping onto my captures back. Though, if he noticed he said nothing, no words of comfort, no scolds for being weak. He was silent.

I woke up, realising very slowly that night had fallen, my body aching and my stomach growling in hunger. I noticed that a few of the wolves were watching me very carefully, searching for any sign that I would bolt, though even if I could wrench my self from the bulky man’s grasp, I knew that I wouldn’t make it far, and then; I would regret ever breathing in his presence.

“Can we rest a while?” I asked the beast who carried me, though no response came. “Please… I-I, just a moment, I’m dizzy.”

Still no answer, I sighed, trying to adjust myself so that I wasn’t completely unwise down, but I was met with a ferocious growl that made me instantly freeze, my breath panicked and fast.

“Don’t move rogue.” He commanded, and I suspected he was using his alpha tone to try and make me submit, but for some reason it wasn’t working on me.

I moved again, trying to relieve some of the pressure on my muscles, but again, he growled, his grip tightening to the point of pain, making me yelp. In the next second I was thrown into the ground, my body twisting strangely as he stood over me, his black eyes more menacing under the moon. I barely noticed that his men had stopped as he pulled me into my knees by my hair, pained whimpers escaping my throat and I attempted to loosen his grip and crawl away, his growls on fury on increasing.

“When I give you an order you will obey it!” He shouted barbarically as he began walking again, dragging me across the dirt by my hair.

“Stop it hurts!” I cried, my eyes burning as my back was scraped across branches and rocks.

I kept trying to stand, but each time I managed to get my feet under me, he yanked me hard and forced me back into the mud. I wrapped my hands around his wrist and sobbed loudly with each step that he took, my scalp burning as I tried to relieve some of the pressure. By the time we reached a clearing that was filled with houses of all shapes and sizes I was fading in and out of consciousness, the pain almost too much. I had never experienced anything like this in my entire life. No one had treat me as the alpha did.

“Please … please I’ll obey.” I cried breathlessly, my body covered in scapes and cuts from the ground and my dress torn in places.

I was cold, hungry and afraid. I had never been this terrified in my entire life. A small chuckle escaped his lips before he threw me forward, other members of his pack coming out of their houses to glance at the small girl who was crying at his feet, yet no one helped, no one spoke up for me. I truly was alone. I managed to pull myself up into a seated position, crying softly as I kept my head down, I didn’t want to look at any of them, let alone the monster himself. He slowly approached me as a predator would it’s prey, his eyes cold and calculating.

Kneeling he spoke, forcing me to look into his eyes as he tightly grabbed my chin, his choice dark and cruel. “Welcome to the Red Moon pack little mate.”

Some of the wolves around us gasped while others cheered, some even growling at me. I however, remained mute, my eyes swollen from crying and my body shaking with pain and fear. I didn’t know what to say or how to act as he ripped me from the ground, his hold on my upper arm sure to leave a nasty bruise.
