Visitor

Fresh out of the shower I change into some black leggings and an oversized shirt. I debated on if I wanted to watch tv in my bed or go downstairs to the living room. The simple fact that I had left lights on downstairs ended up sending me down there.

Sitting on the couch with my favorite blanket I flipped through the channels settling on a movie I had been wanting to see. It still had a few minutes before it would start so I got up and started a load of clothes. As I passed the backdoor I couldn’t help but stare at it for a second before returning back into the living room. It creeped me out to think about how a stranger had been in my house.

The movie I had picked out was a scary movie, probably not what I should have picked out after just having an intruder. It had turned out to be scarier than I had bargained for. I was literally watching it with one hand over my eyes and the other hovering nearby when my phone rang making me jump.

“Hey,” I said seeing it was Lucien, he had said he would check on me.

“Are you still up?”

I shook my head, “yes, I’m scaring myself even more with a scary movie.”

He laughed, “we’ll get up and unlock the door I’m outside.”

I looked up at my windows as I said ok standing up as I made my way to the door a little too happy. As I opened the door I grinned looking behind him as I hung up my phone. “I know you didn’t walk over here. Where is your truck?”

He walked past me shrugging, “it’s not that far and I needed some fresh air.”

Lucien walked into the living room pausing to look at the tv before he sat down shaking his head. “What in the hell are you watching.”

I made a face, “it was supposed to be good and it is, but it’s scary.”

Looking up at me Lucien arched his brow, “so are you going to be all shy on me now or are you going to come to sit down?”

I snorted, “I am not shy.”

Lucien watched me as I moved past him to sit on the couch. Casually throwing his arm on the back of the couch he shook his head, “are you afraid I’m going to bite you?”

At my face, he laughed, “look I’m sorry about earlier.”

Shaking my head I moved closer to him, “no it’s fine. I’m shy remember.”

As I moved closer beside him he dropped his arm to rest on my shoulders, “ok then should I apologize now?”

I shook my head turning my attention to the tv but it was hopeless, all of my attention was on Lucien. Feeling him move I turned my head surprised when his mouth found mine. “And now?”

As I shook my head no looking up at him I let out a gasp as he effortlessly pulled me into his lap. Lucien confused me plain and simple. One minute he could be so aloof that you wondered if he realized you were even in the same room as him, others he made you very aware of how he was watching your every move. I had one hand on his shoulder and the other pressed against his chest as I looked down at him wondering if I had fallen asleep in front of my tv. Surely this was a dream and I wasn’t here on my couch making out with my fine as fuck boss.

Lucien’s hands on my waist skimming the curves of my hip made me forget all about the movie, in fact, the only thing I was aware of now was him. My body was quickly starting to overheat and I could feel Lucien’s own desire pressing up against me. Things had gone flying past the friend zone and were now in some unknown grey area.

Feeling a little brave I moved my hand to his face pulling his lips back to mine enjoying the taste of his lips. As he deepened the kiss I felt the last of my doubt fly out the window. Lucien tugged at my lip as he leaned up. “Your movie is over.”

I glanced at the tv as if I had forgotten it was even in the same room as us. Lucien’s fingers trailing a path up my leg brought my attention back to him. I had to get control of myself, “did you really walk?” I knew it was a stupid question but I couldn’t help the grin that appeared on my face as Lucien shrugged.

“Ok, you got me. I actually ran the entire way here.”

I shook my head, “it’s not safe you know.”

Lucien seemed to think my words were funny as he pulled me back into his arms. I however was being serious. The woods were pitch black at night, the trees could drown out the moon. I would end up planting myself into a tree or even worse getting eaten by a wolf.

Reaching down Lucien grabbed his phone, “so are you going to find us another movie or are you going to kick me out.”

I put my hand to my lip in thought before I laughed at Lucien’s facial expression. “It’s Friday night, another movie can’t hurt, right?

It was actually around 1 am Saturday morning but I wasn’t ready for Lucien to leave, not after what had just happened between us. Flipping through the movies I found one that wasn’t as scary was about to start. “This ok?”

Lucien nodded adjusting his body so I could lean back against him. As the movie started Lucien pulled my blanket over my legs resting one of his hands on my knee. Resting my head on his shoulder I tried to focus on the movie but found myself nodding in and out of sleep. Lucien running his fingers softly through my hair wasn’t helping any.

I awoke with a start sitting up finding myself in my bed. A million questions started running through my mind. Where was Lucien? When did he leave? Did he really bring me upstairs or had I been so tired I forgot coming up myself?

Reaching out for my phone I saw it was almost 9:30. I shook my head, there was no way Lucien would have carried me all the way upstairs and laid me in my bed. No, I had come upstairs and crashed not even bothering to change into any pajamas.

Getting up I walked into the bathroom and after handling my normal morning routine I sat watching myself in the mirror as I neatly braided my hair. Part of me wondered if Lucien had even been here last night. I’d be lying to say that I hadn’t been dreaming about him. I couldn’t get him out off of my mind.

After I changed clothes I walked downstairs to get a cup of coffee noticing that my blanket was now neatly folded and placed on the back of the couch. I most certainly did not do that. Satisfied that last night had actually taken place I was a little mortified that I had fallen asleep on him. I groaned picturing myself snoring and drooling.

With a cup of coffee in hand, I walked outside to sit on the porch finding the weather had turned chilly. I guess the cold front everyone had been talking about must have finally come through. It wasn’t awful cold but cold enough that I wished I had pulled on a sweater. Still, I sat down looking out toward the opening that led to the cemetery and even further led to Lucien.

My heart literally skipped a beat as I saw a small red wolf standing in the opening. I could have sworn the wolf and I looked eye to eye before it cocked it’s head and ran into the woods. Taking a sip of my coffee I instantly changed my mind about ever venturing through the woods to see if I could spot Lucien’s house.

Smiling I grabbed my phone sending Lucien a text. ”so I assume you made it home safe or did the little wolf I just see eat you?”

Lucien immediately sent a text back, “yeah, at the office now. Can you stop aggravating the wildlife?”

I rolled my eyes at him, “it was in my yard. Why is your ass at the office?”

Taking a sip of coffee I awaited his response, he didn’t make me wait long, “I may have to go out of town for a couple of days and I need to make sure things are in order.”

My heart instantly sank, “oh ok well I will let you work.”

Sitting back in the swing I wondered how he felt about last night. I wasn’t even sure how I felt about last night. Was I ready to be in a relationship? Hell, I didn’t even know how far Lucien was wanting to take this. He could just be playing around. I mean I knew nothing about him. He was essentially still a stranger.

Feeling my phone vibrate again I looked down, “tonight I’m taking you out, be ready at 6.”

I couldn’t help the grin that replaced my frown and responded with a simple “bossy.” He sent back and winky face and I headed back inside taking just a moment to see if I could still see the little wolf but it appeared to be long gone.

With my plans for the afternoon changed I went ahead and took a shower so I would have time to dry and straighten my hair. By the time I had taken a shower, it was only 10:30 and I had no idea how I would make it to six. Pulling my tablet out I sat on the couch and tried to get caught up on F******k. I hadn’t deleted my ex yet and the first thing I saw was him and his new girlfriend that just happened to be an ex-co-worker of mine. I had a sad assumption that I had probably been the one to introduce them together.

Shaking my head I scrolled past and looked at pictures from friends and old classmates. I regretted not staying close with any of my old friends, sure we would still say a friendly hi how are you but I had no real let’s go hang out friends. A lot of the girls I knew had all married and had kids. I was still young at 23 but sometimes I felt like I was missing out.

I was caught off guard as my messenger popped a message up. I frowned at it seeing it was from my ex. “Where are you?

I told myself not to respond but I found myself typing, “I moved.”

He immediately responded, “I know that but where?”

I was not about to tell him where I lived, he had destroyed me. I quickly got off F******k and turned my tablet off. There was no reason he needed to know where I was. H had taken all of his belongings and nothing of mine was in his name.

My tv turned into my best friend as I sat in front of it until around 2. Still, with four hours to go, I walked upstairs and plugged my straightener in turning the tv on in my room so I could watch as I straightened my hair. That did take extra time because I would get into the tv and forget what I was doing. Once my hair was done I applied my make-up again taking longer than normal because I was too busy this time flipping through my music on iTunes.

Just knowing that Lucien was taking me out had me a total wreck and seemed to make the hours drag by. Opening my closet I decided to go ahead and look for something to wear. As I looked through the closet I dug out a long sleeve black shirt with cheetah print sleeves and a pair of jeans. I wanted to wear my brown wedges but with the weather change, I knew my black booties were the better option.

Now fully dressed I still had an hour to wait, teach me to get ready early. Stepping outside to gauge the temperature I shivered finding it was colder than it was this morning. I would definitely grab a jacket although I wasn’t opposed to borrowing Lucien’s again. It had smelled just like him.

Hearing Lucien’s truck pull up I felt a shiver of excitement as I stood up walking to my door. Catching his view I felt my breath hitch, he looked even better than normal if that was at all possible. Opening my door I had to fight to keep the grin off of my face. “Can I help you, sir? Are you lost?”

Lucien walked up the stairs looking down at me as I shut the door, “I never get lost.” As I looked up at him he leaned down kissing me, “now you can help me buy coming on, I’m starving.”

I had assumed we were going somewhere in town but when he passed it by I had to ask. “So where are we going?”

Lucien shrugged glancing at me, “not too far out. It’s a little restaurant called Boggy Waters, they mostly serve seafood but you can get steaks ad burgers too if that’s not your thing.”

I nodded looking out the windows, “so when are you leaving?”

Lucien sighed, “Monday”

I nodded, he sure didn’t waste any time. “So when will you be back,” I asked looking over at him.

Glancing over at me he shrugged, “Friday probably.” Again I nodded. I hoped the probably was because he would be back sooner. The realization hit me then that I really liked him. Like more than just a crush. The make-out session last night, of course, clued me into my desire for him but I was falling for his southern charm and I had no clue how he felt about me. I mean he likes me well enough to... Whatever I would not think about all of that right now. I was hungry and some seafood sounded awesome.

The restaurant was just what I had expected. It was built on a pier and had that down-home southern feel. The inside was decorated with old license plates from different states and old pictures of actors that had long ago passed. Our waitress was super polite bringing us jalapeño hushpuppies, beans and rice, and ice water to munch on as we decided what we wanted.

The menu was a little overwhelming for me because I could have ordered every damn thing on it and been happy as can be. Eating on a hushpuppy I looked over the top of my menu, “so what are you eating?”

He wasn’t even looking at the menu, “fish and shrimp, do you like seafood? I’m sorry I didn’t even ask I kind of just assumed you did.”

I nodded, “I love seafood that’s the problem.” Lucien laughed at me, “well then get whatever you want. They let you add things in if you want.”

When the waitress came she took Lucien’s order first, he ordered fish and fried shrimp with a side of fried alligator and a crawfish baked potato. I on the other hand ended up ordering some type of sampler that had fish, shrimp, alligator, and fried clams with garlic sweet potato fries. I couldn’t decide so I figured with a sampler I couldn’t go wrong.

As she walked away to get our tea I shook my head, “crawfish baked potato what in the world is that?”

Lucien arched his eyebrow at me, “it’s good.”

I shrugged, “whatever. Looking up at him I whispered, “backwoods.”

He looked up at my shaking his head as he grinned. In no time our waitress brought us our tea and refreshed our hushpuppies. “So I guess I can slack off with you gone for a week huh?”

Lucien smiled taking a sip of his tea, “like you actually do anything anyways.”

I scoffed at him, “I practically babysit Jax.”

He nodded, “true if it wasn’t for you he would be aggravating the whole crew.”

Looking up I saw our waitress returning with our food and the smell alone was amazing. My first bite was even better, I could happily eat here every day and grow fat. The fish was crispy and not too salty, everything was perfect. We ate in silence until he started eating his baked potato.

I arched my brow looking at him crazy as he held out his fork for me. “Here try this so you can stop hating on my food.”

I frowned shaking my head but gave in taking a small bite surprised at all the flavors that hit my tongue. “Ok, “I confessed, “it was way better than I thought it would be.” Lucien gave me a smug I told you so look as he continued eating.

When we left I was stuffed, I wasn’t sure if I would make it back in the truck or not. Lucien and I made small talk the rest of the way home, mostly him telling me stuff he needed me to do while he was gone. I found this to be a depressing subject matter. Once we pulled into my yard I began to feel nervous, was he dropping me off? Would he want to come back inside? It wasn’t late just a couple of minutes shy of nine. I looked over at him wondering how brave I truly was.
