Chapter 35: A Demon

It’s time for lunch and I am starving.  I meet Bren and Gloria at their locker and we make our way to the cafeteria.  

“I'm going to stop in at the bathroom. Can you grab me a soda and 3 slices of pepperoni pizza with a side of ranch?” I ask as I veer off to the restroom.

“Got it, babe.  You and your ranch dressing. Is that a southern thing? Ranch with your pizza.” Gloria scrunches her nose up at me.

“I don’t know.  The food at my last school was so bad we doused everything in ranch and I found I really like it with pizza.” I shrug and duck into the bathroom.

I am washing my hands when Vanessa comes in the restroom and locks the door, blocking my only exit.  I turn warily to her and feel Alina become alert, but she stays hidden in the recesses of my mind. It wouldn’t be smart to give her away when Vanessa is supposed to think we don’t have a wolf.
