Chapter 39

Alana's POV

I trembled as I hurried over to the wall to search for the light switch.

"Oh gracious moon goddess," I mumbled, stumbling over an unseen obstacle and stubbing my toe in the lit room.

"Damn... What kind of scream was that? I think my eardrums are leaking out of my head..." I heard the intruder mumble to himself, his words echoed in the unexpected aftermath of my collision.

I swallowed and tapped the wall frantically, searching for the switch. I felt blood rushing up to my brain as fear surged through me. Who could possibly be the intruder? God I hoped it wasn't a rapist.

Or had Ava sent someone to scare the bejesus out of me as revenge for seeing Alaric and I together?

“Hey! Person! Where are you?” The man called out. His voice sounded kind of familiar…

My body shook and I wanted to cry out in frustration at the fact that my lack of coordination which was caused by fear wasn't allowing me to find the light switch.
