EUDORA. 9:02He was two minutes late tonight and he’d barely arrived when I heard a knock on his door which made me strain my ears to listen and at the same time left a dark, brooding feeling inside of me, knowing who it was that was at his door at that time of the night. EUDORA. I looked at the painting again, trying to find out what it was I needed to see. I knew nothing about art. I’ve always been inclined towards the sciences and once, before my life took a different turn, I dreamed of being a nurse, studying at a human school like Conan did. So, none of this made sense. What exactly was I supposed to know about a painting when everything about it could be some twisted form of art? I dunno, artists display weird things all the time and call it art. I would not be surprised if the huge smudge I was looking at on the painting was a part of Leticia’s art. EUDORA. Alpha Rex was at the breakfast table the next day, which was weird and unexpected since I haven’t seen much of him until yesterday when he lashed out at me. I was the last one to join them at the table and before I walked over to them, I tried to study Alpha Rex’s figure to be sure he wasn’t as mad as he was yesterday. Since he was seated at the far end of the table, I could only see the side of his face and that wasn’t enough for me to gauge what emotions he was feeling at that moment. Leticia sat by him on the left side of the dining table,of course, dressed like she was at a fancy restaurant and eating a full course meal. Zena sat by the right and I joined her, slowly settling myself down beside her. I quietly muttered a good morning that earned me a gentle smile from Leticia. EUDORABesides worrying that I was too big for the ladder and I could possibly break it, I was fine joining Zena climbing up into the secret opening. She tugged the latch by the ladder and it rolled back up, shutting the opening with us inside the rooftop of the greenhouse. No wonder the greenhouse looked weird on the outside. It was because the roof was made out of something that wasn’t glass, a weird way to build a greenhouse but I soon realized why it was like that when I looked around the tiny yet cozy space on the rooftop. The greenhouse was truly a font as Zena had said. There were no lights or bulbs. The only source of light was the moon, casting its beam through the only window of the rooftop and causing everything in the space to be nothing but shadows. She was standing by the opened door of my room, peering down at me with a bright smile on her face. I stood on my small feet instantly, tossing my toys away and racing over to her. She hugged me from where I reached by her legs. Since I noticed the shift in the atmosphere of our home, especially between my parents as my illness became the basis of all of their arguments, I took every opportunity to be with my mother. “C’mon, let’s go.”She held my little hands in hers and led me out of the house. We reached a big glass house that I saw some pack workers building a few weeks ago. Then, I didn’t understand what they were making and even now, I still didn’t know but it was complete and probably meant something to my mother because of the way her eyes brightened at the sight of it.“Are we going to plant the flowers here?” I asked innocently.

While other pups in their first few years started out saying “Dada” or “mama”, my brother’s first word as a baby was my name and even though he didn’t get it correctly, it stuck and he never outgrew it. I remember the first time he said it, I was in the kitchen, cooking us a meal from what was left of the foodstuff in our house and he had fallen on his face while trying to come to me.He’d cried the name repeatedly as I came to his aid. I didn’t understand until later that the word that left his mouth was the version of my name that he could say. I tried to correct him repeatedly but he never budged. It became his personal nickname for me. Now he was celebrating his twelfth birthday and my baby brother was just the same, only a little apprehensive because of the waiting he had to do.His small birthday cake that I’d whipped up quickly that morning before going to work
