I knew when the change began; it was the night I told her I had to return to my pack. It was not my choosing; Simon had mind linked to inform me that brows were beginning to be raised, my absence was being noticed, and I had to show up unless I wanted a new Alpha to challenge me. I believed nobody would dare do that, but it was unwise to be away from my pack for so long. I was a leader, and duty was calling to me. I hoped that Alexa could understand that.

That morning, she slept, and I could not leave her side. I knew she was hurt and possibly bothered about what that meant for her and the child. But my mind was made up. I was leaving alright, but what she did not seem to understand was that I was neither leaving her behind nor was I willing to leave the child.
