34. Strangers on the Beach

Sunlight filtered through a slit between the curtains and I realized that it was mid-morning when I woke up, having conversed with Romeo until way past midnight. As usual, once we started speaking, we couldn't stop. So many exciting things came to light last night, and although the occasion should have been momentous, it was not, at least not for me.
Romeo is my mate.
I've known it through a dream that I had the night before I came to Bayswater. Perhaps fate had a hand in our meeting - it was serendipitous that my parents decided that I would be grounded to the beach house in Bayswater, allowing me to tag along with the vision in my dream. On the day I arrived, I went out to the beach during sunset, and just like how it played out in my dream, I found him in his wolf form, injured and lifeless.

Despite the thick foliage that we were standing in, none of the leaves and flowers grazed our skins, making me think that perhaps the vegetation is conjured by magic. The room that we entered through the backdoor appeared to be a kitchen, an island counter dominated the center of the room and cooking appliances were placed against the wall, all spotless and clean. If this is the kitchen, why did my sense of smell pick up the lingering scent of blood and depreciating lifeforce from outside the house? I and Trav paused what we were doing and looked up, only to find a haggard-looking Dimitri tied to a chair and carried by Arch and Roman. For some unknown reason, Nari's luck ran out after she returned from the Moonstone pack. She had lost the vampire's stone that she obtained in the second induction test by Maxwell, earning his disapproval. Her eyebrows furrowed as she tried to recall the events leading to the loss of the stone. A few hours before the induction test, using a glamour spell, Nari had posedas Stephen and met Annabelle at Lava Java.
