Xander's pov

Being engaged with her had brought her nothing but pain and somehow I felt guilty.

The sun hung heavy in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the clearing. It was still the morning of the Triumph procession a celebration of strength, unity, and the ancient bond that tied the Black Pool Pack together.

Outside of my building, the werewolves of the pack were furious because of the recent event. No one liked Leila anyway and there seemed to be rumors that it may be postponed again if she wasn't found.

A decision that was met with a chorus of disapproval.

Down at the fields;

"What’s the point of this charade?" growled Eldric, his fur bristling with annoyance. 'She’s just a pup. She’ll be back.'

"Or maybe she won't," countered Lyra, her silver eyes glinting with worry. "The forest is a dangerous place, even for a wolf."

"Dangerous? Come now, Lyra," sneered Eldric. "We’re not talking about some delicate human girl. Leila is a werewolf! She can handle herself."
