Chapter 27

Avery's POV

Throughout my stay in the cell, I fully anticipated nighttime cause that was the only time I could escape. The old man who I later learned was sixty nine years old had already stolen a key to the cells from a guard before now, he also said I would only be able to escape when the guards are distracted, which is usually at night.

Slowly, night came and food was brought to us, a piece of rice cake. Though it was too small, I made sure to get the best from it, I would need strength to escape.

My eyes met with the old man and he smiled but I didn't return it, I was too eager to escape. Resting my back on the wall, we began to wait for the perfect moment but it never came. None of the guards seemed distracted, they all stood at their positions and if there was need for one to leave, another would take his position. It was as if they knew I was planning to escape.
