Clara's POV

I sat in the living room of Dominique's new acquired house, my eyes fixed on the TV, but my mind wandering somewhere else entirely. Dominique was watching me from the corner of his eye, and I couldn't help but notice the way his gaze lingered on me longer than it should have. It made me feel uneasy.

"You seem distracted," Dominique stated the obvious, turning off the TV.

I looked over at him, trying to gauge if there was any ulterior motive behind his words. "I guess I'm just tired," I hedged, not wanting to give him the upper hand.

Dominique crossed his arms and leaned back against the wall. "Is there something on your mind?"

I hesitated for a moment before finally speaking my mind. "I can't help but feel like you're playing a game with me, Dominique. Like you're testing me to see if I'm really on your side or just pretending to be."

Dominique's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "What makes you say that?"
