Lyra's POV

Just like Devlin wanted, I walked behind them, with my head bent and my confidence stolen away from me.

But the thing is, something cannot be taken from you when you never once had it.

It was funny how this day turned out to be. If I had known, I would have never left my room this morning. I would've refused to help them clean up because that was what led to this quagmire that I was in.

I have lost my freedom and I was being taken as a slave, even worse, as Asher's slave.

I knew he wasn't as terrible as he made himself out to be but I knew the hatred burning in him towards me could morph him into something else, something extremely unrecognizable.

I had nothing to say and no tears to cry anymore. I couldn't even rely on my mother to rescue me because she wouldn't. She would sell me off to Asher in return for a smile from him.

I was unimportant to her and so she wouldn't think twice about selling me off.
