JONAS' POV
I watch her walk away before I reenter the room and mumble an apology for wasting time. John studies the map before he looks up at me. "When are we going to do this?"
I reclaim my spot between Eva and Abraham. It felt weird having two rebels who have tried to kill me in the past on either side of me. But, for some reason, I felt relaxed and at home. Throughout the time I've spent here, I've spotted a few rebels that aren't from this country. It made me wonder if other nations were sponsoring the rebels or if the soldiers were joining voluntarily. The rebel movement is bigger than I had ever imagined.
"I was thinking we should attack as soon as we're ready; there isn't any time to waste."
Abraham asks John. "How many of us are going to battle?"
"I haven't decided yet, but we can't put all our eggs in one basket."
"No one would like to be left behind. The whole camp has been buzzing ev
JONAS' POVThe training room is larger than I expected it to be. A group of about fifty men and women were spared. Each one of them has a partner and they were all practicing the different moves simultaneously. Eva claps her hands together and lets out a sharp whistle. All fights end abruptly, and ragged breathing takes its place."Jonas Blackwater, who is now one of us has accepted my wish for him to take you guys through a few training lessons. He trained with the Council, so he would fight like them. "All eyes were on me now, waiting for me to speak."Seeing as we came upon the while they were sparing, why don't you t
KLAUS' POVTiffany, I think the order is cracking. Every time we meet, we grow further apart. Jonas' betrayal was something we never expected in a million lifetimes. It hit us right at the heart, harder than our pride would ever let us admit. We're just sitting around waiting for his next strike. We know he'll be planning on attacking the estate soon because he always hated it here. We're already prepared for his strike. Without my father here to advise us, it has been hard on Kayden. The rest of the former order has been offering their endless help as we try to decide what we should do. We constantly have senate meetings, sometimes as much as three times a day.
Lisa's POVI give Arielle one last hug, trying to hold back the tears threatening to fall. She squeezes me tightly. Her body was wracked with sobs. "I don't want to die, Lisa." Her voice is hoarse. Show me how you did it, show me how you lived. She begs me.My heart breaks for her. I felt myself go limp against her. How? That has always been the big question. How did I survive that several times? How did Kayden survive? Why were the two of us different from the others? What happened in our lives that altered the course of history? Kayden had told everyone that my birth certificate was false. I can't lie to her and tell her that. Not today, of all days. It wouldn't be fair to her memory. I pull away and hold her shoulders, looking into her pleading, blue eyes. "I have no idea how I did it."She takes a deep breath and steps away from me. "I guess that's what makes you a fraud, isn't it?" With the back of her
Lisa's POVMy heart was racing with each step as I carried the gun around the corner and into the hall, my heart racing with each step. Two rebels in matching black pants and similar shirts were patrolling the area. I was impressed. It seemed the rebels had eventually managed to get international funding. The war isn't just about this country anymore.I shake my head, forcing myself to focus. The rebels hadn't noticed me. Their backs were turned to me. I raised one of the guns, aiming the gun at the back of his head. I pull the trigger, and before the other man could retaliate, I fire two bullets into his head as well. I watched their dead bodies lying in a pool of their blood.I rushed out of the room before more rebels would pour in. I made my way to where the staircase was. I was left exposed if I continued patrolling the ground floor like this. My breath hitches as I attempt to make my way up. I hear growling a
Kayden's POVLuke meets my eyes. He was the only one who held my gaze. "I'll fight by your side.""So will I." Elijah turns his eyes back towards me.Stefan and Morrison exchange glances. "Count us in too," Morrison says. Stefan nods his head in agreement.Blake closes his eyes and sighs. "I'll join you too."Derek shakes his head. "I can't let you guys have all the guns without me."Genevieve stares at all of us. As much as I would have loved to join you guys, someone has to stay back to oversee this. Plus, in combat, I'm not half as good as any of you guys. I'll only be a liability. "
JONAS' POVHe's now mine. I've defeated the Council."Jonas, leave him alone. Please, stop. "I would recognize that voice anywhere. LisaMy bloodied fist is still in the air. I stare down at Kayden's unconscious body. Blood was pouring down his face. Satisfaction mixed with regret washes over me, marring the sweet taste of my victory over the Council. Lisa's voice makes my heart squeeze. It's been a long time since I heard her voice. The last time I did, she was with this bastard."Oh my goodness, Kayden," her voice cracks.Jonas put your hand down this instant. I know you hate him with everything in you, but he's still your cousin. He's family, something I haven't had for most of my life.I laughed. "So what? Do you think you can stop me? ""It doesn't seem feasible, but I'll try it even if the odds are stacked against me."I lower my fist and stand, my back still facing
KLAUS' POVI'd killed ten rebels and I couldn't feel any better. I haven't had this much fun since Tiffany shattered my heart. I still carry the letter I wrote to her. I could afford to leave it lying around lest someone might see it. Right now, the letter felt like a ton of bricks in my pocket. Despite the fact that I was in a happy mood, my motivation is being fuelled by my disgust for the rebels. I've hated them with a passion ever since a rebel attack on my family fifty years ago on Mother's Day. My mother had been repeatedly shot. How she managed to survive has been termed a miracle. She spent a year in a coma and another year in the hospital. The poison in the bullets was so strong that our healing ability was reduced to the barest minimum. It was hard for everyone to see her that way.I button the cuffs of my shirt, having shifted back into human form, walking past the bodies of dead wolves lying on either side of
KLAUS' POVHer face softens as her eyes fill with tears again. "I don't think---" she wipes her eyes with the back of her hand. "This is all my fault. If only I had gotten here quicker. If I had thrown caution to the wind and run all the way here, he wouldn't be lying here half-dead. " Her face hardens again as she tries to rein in the tears threatening to fall. "I failed him, Klaus. How can't you see that? Everything traces back to me. "I feel my gun poking me from my waistband. This is the opportunity I've been waiting for for a long time. I could shoot her between the eyes right here and now. There were no witnesses. Kayden would never know the truth. I'll pin it all on Jonas. He left Kayden half-dead and killed Lisa for not choosing him. It is the perfect backup story. The council would finally be rid of her. I slipped my hand behind my back to wrap around the gun.I raise my head to look at her and I freeze.
