My bloodied fist is still in the air. I stare down at Kayden's unconscious body. Blood was pouring down his face. Satisfaction mixed with regret washes over me, marring the sweet taste of my victory over the Council. Lisa's voice makes my heart squeeze. It's been a long time since I heard her voice. The last time I did, she was with this bastard.
"Oh my goodness, Kayden," her voice cracks.
Jonas put your hand down this instant. I know you hate him with everything in you, but he's still your cousin. He's family, something I haven't had for most of my life.
I laughed. "So what? Do you think you can stop me? "
"It doesn't seem feasible, but I'll try it even if the odds are stacked against me."
