CHAPTER 24

LISA'S POV

Have I ever mentioned that I hate family dinners? Well, I have, ever since the death of my parents. Every other makeshift family I had at the rebel house was terrible and I hated them all.

As we approached the door, Jonas wrapped his arm around my waist. I look up at him in surprise.

"Just go with the flow. I remember telling you that you were my date for the night."

I nod and look straight ahead. I was about to walk into the Council. My heart was beating rapidly against my ribs. I wonder if Jonas could hear it. If he didn't, he didn't say anything.

"Is Brandon going to be here?" I ask. Hoping I would see one more familiar face amongst the sea of strangers I was about to mingle with.

"I don't know, Lisa." Jonas sighs. His hand trembles as he reaches for the doorknob. Before he could turn it, I reach for his hand. He stops and looks at me.
