Chapter 7

I walked towards the edge of the forest behind the orphanage. I looked around, making sure I was alone before taking off my clothes. I was waiting for Rhys to take over, I was completely naked and nothing happened.

‘What are you waiting for,’ I said, annoyed at Rhys.

I could hear her laugh before I could feel my bones breaking. I fell to the ground. I know the stories of the first shift. The pain you have to go through. I screamed out. My bones started to realign. My body covering in fur. My breathing was heavy, and my sight started to change. My hands were replaced by paws. The ground felt different. Everything felt different. It felt empowering being in this form. My fur had a gold shimmer running through it.

I started running through the forest. I never felt freer than at that moment. The wind brushed through my fur. I had never been this far out before. I could hear water running. I tried following the sound.

I gasped at the sight of this beautiful waterfall. I heard something behind me. I quickly turned around. I had a feeling someone was watching me. I saw a big black wolf slowly moving towards me. It wasn’t Ares’s wolf. I sniffed the air before I could place his scent I was jumped. We both rolled backward until we came to a halt. He started licking my head, I tried to worm myself out of his grip. I shifted back under him and took his head.

"stop it, Carson," I chuckled when he continued licking my face.

I tried to push his wolf off me, pushing his head away. Only for him to move down. His wolf looked up, even in his wolf form I could see his smile. He shifted back on top of me. He softly kissed my stomach, making the same tingling sensation as before run through me. He slowly made his way down, but I stopped him by gripping his head and pulling him up.

"Ares?" I asked him.

"Mad, like always," he sai while he pressed himself between my legs. A breathy moan escaped my lips before he kissed them. His kiss was rougher than before. His hands wandered down my body, gripping my thigh. He moved his hips against me, I felt his hardened length pressing against my wet folds. My arousal consumed me. I could feel his tip pressing against my entrance before he pulled himself off me.

"You are making me crazy, you know that," he said with his same seductive smile. He took my hand, lifting me up to my feet. He softly kissed my forehead.

"You don’t need to stop, I don’t want you to stop," I whispered against his bare chest. He placed his hand under my chin, lifting my face up, meeting his eyes.

"I promised."

I sighed, "it’s my choice," I said while my hands traveled down.

"I know, it is."

Before I could stop him, he tossed me into the water. There was nothing I could do to stop my fall. When I resurfaced, I saw him laughing.

"Really Carson," I said with a huff.

He jumped in and grabbed me, pulling me close, "I thought we both could use some cooling off," he said with a smirk.

He kissed me briefly, not wanting to be swept away by another moment.

"I know you don’t recognize me as your mate, but do you have the same feeling towards other wolves?" I saw the insecurity in his eyes.

"I don’t know actually, you and Ares are the only men I saw today," I said with a small laugh. "But, I have a feeling it is only with you and Ares."

I saw a glimpse of relief in his eyes, I took this moment to crash my lips back on his. I didn’t mind being swept away by the moment we shared. I didn’t want these moments to stop. I wrapped my legs around his waist, pressing myself against him.

He parted our lips and whispered, "naughty little wolf."

"You can't toss me away again," I said with a cocked eyebrow.

I saw his eyes wandering off, flickering.

"We have to go," he said before giving me a quick kiss.

I let my legs fall from his waist, "what is it?" I asked.

"Ares, he can't find you," he said while walking out of the water.

I sighed, I didn’t want to leave. I let myself drift on my back in the water. Drifting around.

"Come on we have to go." I could hear his tone change.

"No, I’m not going."

He sighed, "annoying him won’t make it any easier. He won’t hurt you, but that won’t stop him from fighting me," he said.

I knew he was right, I didn’t want him to get hurt. I slowly moved toward the edge, climbing out. I looked over at Carson, my eyes wandering over his naked wet body.

"And you say I’m a tease," I said with a smirk.

"Focus Jamie," he said with a laugh. "Are you okay to shift again, or do I have to carry you,’’ he said with his smile.

"Wouldn’t you like that," I said before shifting. I was much quicker than last time, the pain wasn’t as bad as before. I walked past him, making my way back to the pack house. I still couldn’t understand how he found me.

‘He followed your scent probably,’ Rhys said with a purr.

I could hear him running behind me, his wolf was much bigger than mine. But not as scary as Ares’.

The pack house came into view. I could see people running around. Carton ran in front of me before slowing down. I saw him shaking his head before he picked up his pace again. I quickly followed him to the back of the pack house. He turned around and signaled to me to wait. He shifted and walked into the pack house. The air was filled with fear. It made me feel nervous. I knew Carson and Ares would keep me safe. But something in my gut told me the fear I smelled was because of Ares.

When Carson walked out fully dressed again, I could see the clothes he was holding were for me.

"Ares and I are the only ones that are allowed to see you naked, remember that," he said while gripping my head. I nodded and shifted back, quickly putting on the clothes he gave me.

"what’s happening, why is the air filled with fear?" I asked Carson.
